How do I change the voltage on a dual voltage hair dryer?

Janice Asked:
I bought a dual voltage hair dryer to use overseas, and on it there is a little black dial with a slit in it, and 120v to the right and 250 to the left as labels. I tried to switch the little dial to 240, thinking it might lock or something but it could spin the little dial all the way around.
I plugged it in and it does not seem to be working properly, so I don't think I changed the voltage properly.
Any help?
