When I use my hair dryer in my room my room lights dim?

When I use my hair dryer in my room (as in turn it on) my room lights dim.. and then when I turn the hair dryer off it goes back to "normal" brightness.. What is causing this?
Is it bad to keep using my hair dryer in my room? Should I just use it in the bathroom since it's fine in there?
